Great Mixed Reality chess game

This is the first social mixed reality game I ever played in Multiplayer. It it done very well! With the other player as avatar next to the chessboard and the mixed environment of my living room, I had the feeling of the other person really being in the same room as myself. Moving the chess pieces myself with my fingers through handtracking also gave it an extra boost of playing a real game vs. clicking items with my controller. The voice quality during the session was very good. I also played one match offline against an AI which reacted very good as well. It may be good to configure the expert level on the AI in a future update. Everyone interested in chess should clearly check out this innovative app!

It's good, but!

First, let me say I love hand tracking and mixed reality, I think it's a great addition to VR. I love that the devs are using hand tracking and mixed reality; it's the reason I bought the game. With all that said, I think the game should also have an option to use the controllers. Hand tracking is a great feature, but at this level, it could be a tedious chore getting the board just right when you just want to jump on and play a quick game or two. I love how this game isn't bloated with different chess variants, wacky music, in the app store, leader boards.... it's just a simple flat board with pieces and basic chess setup options, I love it! 🥰 This game requires an internet connection for solo play, I don't like that. This game really needs an offline mode, in case we're traveling and just want to play versus the AI or a player in the same room as us.

Its a good base but room for improvement

I think the base is good and the MR feature is actually pretty awesome. - Calibration of the chessboard is complicated because Handtracking sometimes doesnt work accurate - Online is empty. Maybe look into some sort of Lichess Integration, that would be pretty sick. - Rematch Button? Should be a thing - With a real chessboard sometimes my moves get stuck. Maybe integrate a "Reset Move" Button? - Maybe some skins so the board is a bit nicer to look at

Good idea, but needs more work

The idea to mix virtual and material pieces is great, in practice I found the concept working not smoothly and reliable, I did not get deeper than a few moves before the software blocked. All virtual worked better, I could end matches. The biggest weakness however is, as is so often the case with chess games on consoles, that the AI engine is really too weak. I do not expect this to play like Stockfish or Hiarcs or Fritz or something like these, but what the computer here plays is so bad that it is demotivating to even care any longer. There are hundreds of privatel developed engines available. Just knowing the rules of how to legally move pieces in chess does not enable a coder to code a usable chess engine. I recommend to reach out to the authors of said public engines whether they might not be interested in being included in the project, with their engines. Three stars because I am in a good mood and wish this project well, but 2 would be more realistic. Add a better engine and fix mixed virtual-material mode to work reliable: then it would become 4-5 stars, it would depend.

Great Potential!

I love the UI/UX interface of this app. Unfortunately i have issues with the AI where it will not make any moves whenever i start the game. I also have not been able to get into a game with anyone. I don’t want to refund this app because i can see its growth potential but it’s unusable atm. Are there any updates that will fix this issue coming soon? Edit: The AI has been completely fixed and I see that developer is working real hard to make mixed reality chess a reality. The only thing I’m looking forward to is a better matchmaking system.
