A good game that lacks polish

I really enjoyed my time with Apex Construct. It's the most expansive and lengthy VR experience I've had before and the game's core works really really well. The level design and lore are interesting and progressing through the game is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it shows a strong lack of polish that likely comes from such an ambitious title being developed by a smaller team. There are lots of bugs that caused me to have to reload missions because a necessary trigger was never activated by the game for whatever reason. It also has a completely underwhelming ending that makes it feel like the true ending of the game was cut out. All in all, it's still very much worth playing, but be aware it's not always a smooth experience.

I wish...

...that I could give this game five stars, I really do. Unfortunately, my first major experience with VR (this game) left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The game is, at first, extremely fun and reminds you a lot of Half-Life with the puzzles and general vibe. I was bummed to realize that's where the similarities end. The story builds wonderfully, only to abruptly end with no explanation. There is all this foreshadowing for events that are supposed to play out, things that are supposed to be done, quests to be completed, and then it just stops and doesn't finish ANY of it. The climax during which you face the first "boss" is exhilarating, then the rest of the game is just recycled. There is very little depth beyond the first few chapters. There is no hint of a sequel, no epic ending, nothing...it's like the developers stopped halfway into the game and said "meh," then put it on the market. I hate that I was disappointed by this game because the mechanics and environment are great. The story left me really unsatisfied, though. If a sequel is released in the future, I would be happy to update this review, but the impression I got was that this story is over.

Best oculus experience

This was one of the first few games I bought on my quest and I still play it to this day. It’s extremely immersive. The combat system is amazing and super easy to understand. Some of the maps just look amazing. I promise you’ll find yourself just standing still and appreciating the art work of this fine game. The story line is kinda confusing so you gotta pay attention. My favorite part is the ability to explore the levels and look for the secrets and stuff. I can see me playing this multiple times and recommending this game to my friends. The boy thing I could suggest is some kind of multiplayer. Maybe like co-op or something ? Only reason I’m giving four stars instead of 5. If you are on the fence about buying this game, trust me it is well worth the money.

Enojoyable game, read before buying

Very slight spoiler warning for the ending (after final level) I honestly like the idea of this idea, bow is the only weapon, everybody's gone, and random voice guides you towards through robots The game has slight Metroid vibe where you find something, have a new level but in the same area and you can proceed there The game is enjoyable but the inventory is a little...unusual, you get easily stuck into a staircase, sometimes and Im pretty sure teleporting with an item in your hand makes it disappear or just fly somewhere you won't find (happened to a clipboard with a code) Now the game would have 5 stars if not for this next flaw... The game doesn't end, after you finish the final level and level ending happen, you just go back to the safe house, no credits, no new levels, no congrats for finishing the game amd Fathr just says the same thing when going to level selection... The game feels incomplete so if you actually care about the ending, you WILL get disapointed and you should think twice about getting the game

Not a bad game when it works

I quite enjoyed it at start, but found way too many bugs. I don't mind revisiting the same place multiple times (like others do) as long as the story goes along with it, which is the case here. There are many many spots where you can leave the playable area (which gives room for some noclip discoveries) - if you do like some exploration like this, then prepare to abandon the level as sometimes you won't be able to find your way back. What the most annoying to me was that putting down the headset (Quest 3) a few times to take some breaks will eventually lead to software hang, which cannot be solved by quitting and restarting. You need to reboot the headset as the task remains in the background as a zombie. Is there a task manager for Q3? Losing gameplay like this annoys me like not many things. Also there are bugs like unable to walk stairs, getting stuck in walls / opened doors/cabinets. The inventory is working on a trial-and-error basis. Many times i tried to grab something in it, but instead the game teleported the board of note in my hand from the floor. One time i gave up on finding a code and checking it on a walkthrough video just to find out that the cabinet holding the note with the code is not there in my game. It was there upon some next visit later on. I can enjoy this game, when it works, but i cannot give it 5 stars while these bugs are there.
