Generational comeback

Hell sweeper has had one of the greatest comebacks in gaming, it’s up there with cyberpunk 2077. The game not only quickly improved on every issue with multiplayer, they expanded on it, adding new weapons, enemies, maps. The devs did everything they could to improve this game and they did a fantastic job.

Great Idea - Terrible execution

(New additions to my review) Im level 5 now and the Gameplay is pretty decent its a lot to learn/master but the graphics are still reeeally f***ing bad but fortunately you rarely have time to look around. A detailed review is below but I will add things as I experience more and more of the Game. Please ignore my comment regarding weapons as there are a few more to unlock that I havent seen before. I didnt like that in Sairento you get every weapon instantly. It overwhelms new players who are still struggling with the core gameplay. Hellsweeper does this better. Now a few things that NEED to be fixed: 1. Perma Slowmo bug: Its basically a cheat but it doesnt feel great and It does happen fairly often every fifth or sixth level... 2. Roguelite upgrades: So after playing for a few hours you get the hang of the core mechanics and start to rush thrpugh the levels and this is when the games starts to pick up pace. This pace unfortunately is interrupted by the Upgrades... If you open a chest or complete a level you get to pick a new Upgrade every Upgrade has a unique visual so in theory selecting the upgrade should take only a few seconds but for some reason you cannot use an upgrade while moving away... You have to stand infront of the chest or the hand for several seconds because if you are too far away the Upgrade dissappears from your hand. This makes no sense gameplay wise and should be removed entirely. I usually open a chest, grab the upgrade I want and look/go to the next portal but this system c**kblocks me from going away until the crushing animation has finished. Its really annoying because there is no point. 3.Death indicator: Its SUPER frustrating to die after spending so much effort to upgrade your gear. But thats part of the game. You think to yourself:Goddam you can do better, lets go again! I am not complaining about it. But what I really hate is not understanding why I died. Sometimes there are 10 enemies around you and you have no clue who killed you. Other times you die without seeing anybody and you think: "what in the Hell did I die to?" This is incredibly frustrating because you dont now what to do better. This can be fixed with my next point. 4. We need more stats! I like to see how many different demons I have slain at the end of each run but there should be a Total number. It would be way more satisfying to see the sum of your kills. Also how much Dmg you did AND how much dmg you reveived and what sources damaged you the most. And of course point out the damage source that killed you. Stats are great for perfectionistic lunatics like me who see 43 kills and think:"I can do 50 next round!" (Old review not updated) So I have spend the better part of the Last two days playing this game... 1.Graphics on Quest: Lets just be honest they are sh*t. And I mean seriously BAD. 3 Years of development for this crap? I understand that there are great limitations for releasing a game on quest however the environment looks so bad that it becomes unimmersive. Fortunately you are so occupied figuring out the controlls that you dont realize. (Not a critique point, quite the contrary. I despise devs that make games with the intention that even your 4 year old brother could beat it playing upside down with his feet. True skill is not given to the players but earned.) 2. Weapons: Im SERIOUSLY dissapointed so far... the weapon variety boils down to either use pistols, swords (a few reskins like katana or sythe but still swords) or throwables in the form of magic (got to admit rock split is pretty sick) But in Sairento (a game that came out SEVEN FU**ING YEARS AGO from the same devs) you had 3 different pistols a few katanas the throwables were kunai, shuriken or even giant Wind Shuriken that Sasuke sometimes uses, smgs, Aussault rifles, Sniper rifles, Shotguns and even Bazookas. They even implemented sickles that you can swing around on chains I mean seriously WTF. So their predecessor had way better Weapons than their new game but thats it right? NOPE! 3. Movement: One of the big selling points of this game is its freedom of movement, does it deliver? Well yes and no. The Movement is incredibly fun compared to most other games. Its been great to finally be flipping around hordes of enemies again like in Sairento. But unfortunately this is another aspect done better in Sairento for some reason... the movement in Sairento feels way more accurate and responsive. Its not easy to describe it without showing but Sairento did better what I wanted to to do while in Hellsweeper your Input doesnt always equal what movement you get. So yet another downgrade from its predecessor. 4.Enemies: They are pretty decent nothing to complain about regarding the Design team. The Enemies are quite disgusting to look at (which is good) But their size is fairly small... I am about 1.90 cm and the enemies rarely come up to my chest. I cant explain why but it just feels kinda wrong. The graphics on quest unfortunately dont do the enemy design justice. Because a few look more like playdough toys instead of life threatening demons. Still overall I really like the enemy designs all of them need a different approach to defeat, which mixes up the gameplay quite a bit. 5.Upgrading/Progression system: Another downgrade compared to its predecessor! In Hellsweeper you upgrade from level to level which is typical for a roguelite. It forces you to replay the game to try out different builds which I personally really like. Additionally you gain levels for for defeating enemies and clearing levels. These 25 levels you can achieve provide permanent Upgrades to your stats and also unlock a few new abilities. Its not bad... BUT its way worse than its predecessor Sairento. I was level 100 in sairento on one of my playthroughs. But i was FAAAR from beeing fully upgraded. Every aspect of the game had its own skill tree. Bullet time, weapons even no weapon hand Combat had its iwn skilltree. Every Skill tree had a few major Upgrades like adding a third jump for example and a few smaller upgrades like increasing the jump range. BUT THATS NOT ALL! Every weapon had 4 different perk slots for more damage, faster reload time, multiple projectiles and so much more. BUT THATS NOT ALL! Even your gear was upgradeable! Wallrunning to slow? Upgrade your boots! Reloading to slow? Upgrade your gloves! Need another jump? Upgrade your pants! The Upgrading system was really fleshed out and deep. But its succesor (Hellsweeper) has only 25 levels and the roquelite elements... In comparrison its just sad really... 6. Bugs and Glitches: So far my experience was good enough. I had no crashes or game breaking bugs which nowadays feels like something I should praise. The game works, great Job! But even though I only played for about 10 hours I was stuck in slowmotion for an entire level, twice. This unfortunately sounds more fun than it was. And my Dog glitched out once and sommoned itself every half a second. Still all in all everything was working as Intended. Conclusion: There is a lot to improve in this game And in my humble opinion I think Hellsweeper is worse than Sairento BUT its still good enough to have at least 20-30 of fun gameplay. So id still recommend you buy it because there is a lot of fun to be had with the Game. But maybe wait a few months until they fixed most of the problems and graphics.

New Update Makes this a Masterpiece!!

The addition of gauntlet mode is fantastic, I always loved the fighting in this game but don’t always have the time to play through the roguelite mode. Being able to jump in and immediately start killing demons is my FAVORITE addition to this game. This is also now one of the best workouts you can get in VR! You can choose how you play and I like to sweat, so I put on my rock fists and start punching until my shoulders are burning. A BIG THANK YOU to the developers for their continued updates. This is a defining VR masterpiece and is criminally underrated and under appreciated, I really hope this game gets the recognition it deserves in the future!

Real Good

Devil May Cry in Vr. You love to see it. The only thing I wish for is custom battles and more weapons. I'm talking knives, greatswords, spears, more variations of weapon classes (Like a sword but with a different function) You guys are awesome for making this, so thank you and keep doing what you do!

Devs please read this!!!

Devs please read this, after adding the pillars to multiplayer, no portals or hands spawn after opening the chests, so we cant go further than level 1. My friends and I all bought it specifically for multiplayer, and now it's not working. Please fix this!
