Looking Forward to Loving It

I really wanted to love this experience and I still do! It’s not really a game though. I think that’s part of the problem with the marketing for it and the expectations that have been set so far. It’s definitely more of a narrative experience with interactivity. But the interactivity goes beyond simple interactions like in some of the other narrative experiences. I’ve been excited for some developers to push the envelope with content a bit. So sick of the same first person shooters and zombie games. This is definitely an original effort but it needs some polish to take it where it really needs to go. I don’t know if the Quest 1 graphics are holding this back, but if so I hope they focus on Quest 2 moving forward. The movement needs work, they need to fix the weird black screen that keeps popping up….and for the love of GOD, please add some ability to save. I was halfway through the first chapter and went to the menu to try to change a setting…and lost all of my progress. No one wants to play through the same thing again just because they went to look at a menu setting for a second. That is a huge oversight. If they can fix some of these buggy issues and add a bit of polish I will update the review and continue on this journey because I really want to support this unique effort.

The Lazyest Quest 2 port ever : PS1 Gfx

The DEV simply took the PCVR version and chose to export with : 80% polygon and texture reduction. This would fit nicely on Gear VR or Google Cardboard. If the game was originally designed for Quest 2 instead of PCVR, this game would not have been so rough graphically. Red Matter and The Room on Quest 2 look like the PCVR version of this game. So there is no reason not to be better than this. Mechanically it feels like an early 2016 VR game. Pro tip : don’t use the free locomotion and do not move out of your center position when you see a white circle on the floor, teleport otherwise the game will get stuck. The smooth locomotion is so slow, even at max, you need to teleport all the time. You cannot move on stairs, only teleport down or up. This is super immersion breaking not being able to walk because it is too slow at max speed. Black screen at every event, snap turning will move you around if you don’t stay in the center of your room. If you want to adjust a setting, you have to loose all progress to return to main menu. Those beautiful images in the video are just that, a pre-rendered CG video shown to you on a giant 2D screen inside the game, not the actual game. Other than that, it is a gorgeous game with fantastic artistic design, the energy and mood do feel good and positive. It is a light Myst if you want. The instruments are very good and are pressure and speed sensitive. I don’t want to get a refund, because I really like the game. It takes 1.5 hours to complete if you take your time. I already want to start over because I want to experience it again and immerse myself in that world. With a little effort, this game could become a real gem. They need to get higher resolution models and textures for the Quest 2 at least. Right now it is technically the weakest game ever made for the Quest. And it is buggy, this would be fine on Sidequest, but it is definitely not ready for the official store. If you like this kind of game, you will surely like it. It is just an unpolished gem right now. Wait for it to improve if you want, but what is here is fun, original and refreshing. The story, the world, the sounds, the emotions are already there. Dont give up yet, it may eventually turn into a beautiful flower with time. This would be my favorite VR game if it was not for the formless polygon models and PS1 textures. The music, the sounds, the voices, the story, the dialogs, the mood, the feel, the art design are the best I have ever seen and heard. I will definitely buy the next episode. But please, have a little respect for the Quest 2 It can handle at least 4 times that polygon count and texture resolution (as seen by many other games on this very platform). The artists did their job, now the programmers must do their job (optimisation, graphic upgrade, fix bugs).

Hope there's more

This is basically Vader Immortal with an Avatar theme. Not to minimize it or demean it. It's the same concept, on rails being guided through the story with little bits of interaction. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous and the music is beautiful. The puzzles are extremely easy, so this would be good for kids who don't get scared (nothing scary happens, but you do see some very big strange animals very close up). My complaint is the same as everyone else -- so short. You could easily finish this in less than the 2-hour refund window, but I'm keeping it to support the devs in hopes they can add to the story. Plus it supports Steve Irwin's wildlife conservation foundation, and what kind of monster takes their money away from that? But yes, devs, please...more of this! It was short but very enjoyable, even for a 50-something woman. :)

Do NOT buy.

Yes. The graphics are PlayStation 1 quality. The gameplay is similar to Vader: Immortal, restrictive, short and tedious. The story bland. The music/sound part of the game is virtually nonexistent and boring. The design of the characters, creatures and world is ok. The VR mechanics are completely outdated. The frequent, black loading screens are immersion breaking. The invisible barriers annoying. Every part of this game is subpar. Elixir is a better game, by far!

LOVED this Short Game!!

I’m new to VR and saw this game. It’s short 1-2 hours and super cute. Helped me to learn the basics of VR movement. Loved the story and the graphics. Also taught me ways to overcome the nausea I was feeling using vr. Basically, had to keep my calves touching the couch so I had continuous bearings the real world, and then had to move my feet in place gently to give the brain the idea that the body was moving with what I was seeing in vr. Sitting made the nausea worse as I think the brain was confused by the conflicting message of interpreting movement but the body was not moving. I’ll play any games these guys make. Great for family!!!
