Not good enough

Pros: + Some reworked nostalgic tunes from 1994. + Ball impact / puzzle spin idea is original and elevates this game from 1 to 3 stars. Cons: - Sadly another game that exudes that slightly rushed, Quest gold rush cash-in vibe rather than any kind of labor of love celebrating the original series. - Borderline insult to Taito's grand legacy. - Super overpriced for what amounts to a lackluster game overshadowed by its predecessors. - Hideously tired 1-3 star completion system making this game really feel like yet another Android game of the Angry Birds or Cut the Rope mould. Given the similarity to Angry Birds VR you'd think this title would want to celebrate its arcade roots rather than aspire to emulate every Android game since 2010. - Ball limit and time limit seem like very lazily implemented replacements for the old Puzzle Bobble's lowering ceiling. There's no drama or visual cues it's just oh look you ran out of balls. Real bare minimum stuff from the developer. - Broken collision detection. Shot at the bird. Missed. Awarded hit. - Oversized gun that can only really be fired sideways otherwise it's so big it obscures your view. - Bub/Bob in Steampunk goggles. I know you're trying to bridge generations with this title but really, adding 3-star completion and steampunk affections are such super lazy design choices it's got that Dad trying to be down with kids cheesy vibe but not in an endearing way, in a Dad stop embarrassing yourself way. - Pointless loading screen "progress meter" that borrows the absolute worst of computing trends: progress bars that complete over and over making no indication of the loading journey from start to finish. So it's more an indicator the Quest is switched on. Thanks. I could tell that by the fact the screen is on and the power light is lit.

Not the best...

Was hoping for something more akin to Puzzle Bobble on the PS2 (was completely addicted to that back in the day!), but also intrigued by the possibility of the added 3D element. Unfortunately, I do not get on with the huge catapult firing system; I found myself constantly trying to see around it, and having to twist myself into all sorts of shapes to make the simplest shot. If there was an option to use a simple laser pointer and fire button system, I could see this game being SO much better. As a result of the control system, I've only played the game for about half an hour. Would love to play again with a more sensible control system...

The more I played and kept unlocking extra items, bobbles, levels and increased challenges the more I wanted to keep playing. The only reason I stopped due to standing for 2 hours after leg day at the gym! Featuring 100 levels! and has now been reimagined for virtual reality and has 1v1 online mode. Why not 5 stars? Well there’s no voice in the online mode and the online mode isn’t really taken advantage of here. It’s could of been incredible to help the game stand the test of time instead of just being a little bit of fun. That’s not to say it won’t get updated but here we are today. I do recommend this ⭐️

From the eyes of a veteran, It's decent.

As somebody who's spent many hours on Super Puzzle Bobble and played the original game on a Neo Geo, I found this entry in the series to be a fun time, but unfortunately has quite the amount of flaws. To ensure my review is solid, I completed the game 100%. Visually it's decent considering the limitations of the headset. While environments aren't that much detailed likely to keep compatibility with the original Quest, The character redesigns in fact are a HUGE improvement from Bubble Bobble 4 Friends. As for performance, frame rate runs at a constant 72 FPS with no noticeable slowdown. Gameplay is very different from a traditional Puzzle Bobble game and it's refreshing after seeing what is the same thing from every previous entry. Few differences include no shot timer, a constant reticle, and power-ups. All of these bring a pretty large emphasis on strategy which makes going for tricky shots and 3 stars satisfying. The difficulty was rather balanced except for a few stages and trying to get 3 stars on the latter stages. It definitely gets challenging at a lot of points. The music from ZUNTATA is fantastic. Even though a couple of tracks are reused from Puzzle Bobble Journey, every other track is original and they all sound great. Unfortunately, the game have numerous problems. There's only 100 stages with no rewards for finishing the game or going full completionist, overall low replay value, long loading times regardless of hardware, a 3 star system in general, a bad story that has no effect on gameplay, and while multiplayer is fun, the servers are almost completely empty with no cross play with the upcoming PSVR port, leaving Endless mode as a similar option. and worst of all, If you're colorblind like me there are no in-game settings to fix it (as of this review) It definitely isn't my favorite Puzzle Bobble game because of these flaws.

Could've been great, but lacks polish.

The art design, music, levels, etc, all stunning. Great work there. It's a joy to experience. But the controls are awful. Incredibly twitchy. And there's no sensitivity adjustment. So you spend a lot of time wrestling with what feels like millimetre precision to aim the ball... While the cluster of balls is slowly moving. With a projectile arc that falls off way too soon. So it ends up like a really tedious, twitchy, archery game with poor tracking. Then as your clump gets closer and closer to the vortex, the little guy starts throwing you super unhelpful colours. It's frustrating, because it comes so close. A sensitivity dial and less arced projectile curve could probably save this.
