В мире, населенном странными машинами, сражайтесь с летающими роями (впервые в VR ), и если вы проживете достаточно долго, вас уничтожит Мать Роя.

Flesh & Bone —

Initial impressions, neutral rating

This game is a roguelite and before you make any decent progress you're going to die. It's a necessary sacrifice to pay for your upgrades before starting all over again. Not actually a favourite genre of mine tbh, but I decided to check this out as it looked a bit different and the videos included in the description made it seem quite fast paced and unique. Unfortunately those videos are a bit deceptive for two main reasons. To start with you are not just slow but basically hobbled and even after multiple speed pickups and even a boost back at the skill upgrade screen, you still move painfully slowly. Secondly the weapons make no sense. You have two to choose from, flesh and bone. Flesh is a hammer with no obvious additional use but a pointy laser that does nothing. Bone is a tentacle flail with about the same amount of practicality but which includes the ability to fire projectiles. Both do little damage and the first wave of ground based enemies are a pain to deal with using melee because the weapons are short and you end up having to flail around like a crazy person to do any damage. Unless you stick to projectiles, highly recommend, especially after investing in damage, bullet regeneration, and ammo increase. Your health is also terrible. However you do get a regeneration upgrade that helps out. Not enough to help you survive the insane amount of enemies which eventually start attacking after about wave four or so. The first couple of waves are manageable, and completing one grants a drop pod to grab on the fly upgrades. Some of which I have no idea what they did because the upgrade was higher than I could jump to read the label on them. Because you can't jump well either, that is terrible too. Even worse than movement. Despite all of this, I ploughed through several attempts, in large part because I love the art style which for some reason seemed reminiscent of Shadow of the Beast, and I wanted to see how upgrades played out. I ended up concentrating on bullets, the melee is useless for the ridiculous amount of enemies you face. That allows you to make it a bit longer and get some gold but ultimately you hit a wall early on because you're hobbled in every way. There is no menu, no tutorial etc so I honestly couldn't tell you what to do with those weapons as it stands. No idea how you're supposed to make them useful. Either something is missing or instructions are desperately needed. Either way, there comes a point where you get swarmed by a continuous wave of both ground and air based enemies which are literally impossible to survive, so unless you want to die a thousand times before getting the next level of upgrades, you're likely to get bored trying to achieve the fast pace and insane combat those videos imply. Underneath it all there's something cool waiting to be realised but it's just a bit rough and ridiculously OTT IMO. Graphically it actually looks pretty good but there is some pop in and the odd stutter but it handles a large amount of enemies fairly well. Sound is minimal and has both some nice eerie ambiance and some more basic sounds for enemies that could do with an upgrade, along with some spatial/movement cues. There's potential here, and I wouldn't say ignore it, but it really does need some tweaking and balancing, and whatever is going on with those weapons either needs a fix, instructions, or both. It's also cheap and if the devs keep at it could well be worth getting in on the ground and sticking with it as more changes come.

Good game

The game has a good art style and it takes a few tries to get into but if you figure it out it becomes way more fun and I hope more gets added to the game. The game has many strategies to try and in your first round you may not know how to play but it is very fun once you figure it out. I think this game was worth the initial price and is fun.

Potential but a ways to go

I got an email offering this at a discounted price on preorder, presumably because I bought McDroid about three and a half centuries ago. It looked neat so I bit. As of now it needs a lot of work, mostly on UX. The game itself is a decent survival roguelite/TD. It starts with a hammer and a flail. By picking them up with a hand you choose your 'flesh' and 'bone' hands. The flesh hand is based around turrets and melee, and the bone hand is based around magic. The flesh hand has blue sphere on its back. Picking that up with your other hand and tossing it will place a turret that you have to beat with the hammer to build (or repair) it. It autofires on enemies, or hold your trigger on the flesh hand to create a guide laser. You can unbuild them with the button at their base. The bone hand is both more and less clear. Your trigger shoots magic balls that deal direct damage and knockback, your goofy tentacle flail APPARENTLY possesses monsters to fight for you. I think. I believe you can pick one of each hand, or both the same. So, there's the first big problem the game has: all of that I had to deduce myself. The next big problem is a total lack of menus and NO options. Only smooth turn and locomotion without comfort settings. No height or holster adjustments. There are buff pods that drop for some reason sometimes? They’re useful but often land so that you can’t read what they do. There’s a things around the map too that do… stuff? It’s impossible to say currently. Buttons on walls, red orbs on the ground, plant pods you can hit. Some seem to spawn enemies? There’s also an upgrade system that has a ton of options, and which lets you freely reset it any time without losing anything. It encourages experimentation. This feature I like a lot. Visually it’s neat. It has lower detail animations and models but it’s got a style that I dig. I do currently like it but it’s definitely not finished. I’ll check back.

Nope

Congratulations, in a year full of "Monke Taggers Horror Slop" plaguing the store, and bungled releases like Civ 7, and several more.. You guys achieved the impossible and made not only the worst game of the year, but possibly the worst game since E.T. came out on Atari 2600. There is no tutorial, no instructions, and therefore players have no idea what they are doing. Sure "hidden mechanics" can be fun in games, but not when the whole game revolves around not knowing what you are doing. You should pull the game from the store, work on it waaaay longer, or just abandon it all together. This is the video game equivalent of telling someone you are making macaroni and cheese for them, and then serving them a bowl of uncooked spaghetti with a slice of cheese on it. And then saying "its only one very hard level, and for every 10,000 new players you are going to add another level and raise the price". I'm sorry, I believe in tough love and telling the truth.. You will be lucky to sell 100 copies of this game without most of them refunding it. I preordered the game for $3.. And $3 is nothing. But I'm still refunding it as a matter of principle. Do better!
