OG Gorilla Tag takes you back to the early days of Gorilla Tag, when the game was brand new and the VR community was just discovering it. Before the big updates, the cosmetics shop and the huge player counts, it was a small, scrappy game built on one great idea: you move like a gorilla. You swing your arms, push off the ground and the trees, and launch yourself around the map using nothing but your hands.
The core game was simple. One player starts infected and chases everyone else, and anyone they tag joins the infected. The last survivor wins. The early maps were small and easy to learn, like the forest, the caves and the canyons, and players soon found their own shortcuts, climbing spots and hiding places. With no complicated systems, every match came down to speed, skill and a bit of luck.
A big part of the appeal was the atmosphere. Lobbies felt like a small community, where you kept meeting the same players, made friends and competed for fun rather than for rewards. The rough edges, from the basic look to the odd glitches, are a big part of why people remember it so fondly.
Today, “OG Gorilla Tag” means that nostalgic style of play. It covers throwback lobbies, old-school maps and fan-made remakes and horror maps that bring the early feel back. Many longtime players still say it was the purest version of the game, and whether you were there from the start or are only hearing about it now, it shows how a simple idea can turn into a whole community.
