Gothic Tim Burton storytelling
It’s a pleasure to see artists use certain platforms to complement their art style and to expand their audience. Such is the case with the creators of Raddlesham Mumps on the Oculus Go. This is not a long experience (around 15 or so minutes) and it is not a game, but rather an interactive story. We see in the promotional materials that this experience is but a mere component in an overall multimedia universe for this piece of fiction, and in VR it is quite intriguing. We get Tim Burton-esque visuals and storytelling, while the poet has a haunting and rhythmic quality a la Graeme Edge of The Moody Blues. I enjoyed it, however brief it was, and just may investigate further into the Raddlesham Mumps mythology. It can be enjoyed by just about anyone of any age group who enjoy fantasy and gothic storytelling. It’s shallow and the story here feels fragmented, robbing it of cohesion and complexity, but it remains nonetheless amusing and compelling. For that, I recommend it at the free price tag.
