Shuttle Commander is an accurate physics-based flight simulator where you take to the controls of the space shuttle and land it at various real-world landing sites such as Kennedy Space Centre, White Sands Air Force Base and Edwards Air Force Base. Players can also experience the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope from the cockpit of Discovery in a real time launch experience using original NASA cockpit audio and mission data. Finally, you can view some of the amazing imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope which has been collecting data over the past 30 years from 568 kilometres above us.

DONT GET

Me and my friend were trying it out and we got on and thought that it was cool until we started. It takes like 5 minutes just to get off the ground and then when you are in space, you just dont move and you just go back to the main Home Screen. I strongly encourage you to NOT GET THIS GANE IT IS A WASTE OF $10!!!!

DONT BUY

why one star...because you cant do sh*t AT ALL no nien (no) never 0% you sit in a chair and have NO HANDS, BODY, E.T.C! I thought i could have ATLEAST HANDS but no the only "fun" part even if you could call that is "landing" the air craft but no hands e.t.c and you use the thumb sticks and buttons! p.s i want a refund but its too complicated 😞

Just why

I thought that I could get an experience of how it’s like to control a space shuttle but instead I got a narrated story of a space launch. I can’t even get a refund. I do not recommend it to anyone because a have more bad things to say but it’ll make this to long.

Learn through play - it's the only way!

Don't laugh... newbie Quest user here, but it took me several attempts with the landing sim before I realised it's movement of the WHOLE hand controller that determines up/down/left/right direction of the shuttle and NOT the thumb joystick!!! I know, I know, should have gone to specsavers, as the intro notes do (sort of) explain this. However, I can only slap my forehead in disbelief and embarrassment now that I've actually managed to land the STS without severely damaging it on some occasions and destroying it on most. I'm sort of amazed that I managed to land it at all before realising the correct method to use, but I'll put that down to luck more than judgement. Now that I have understood the full briefing, I'm happy to say that this app is more enjoyable than frustrating and educational as well. I now have even more respect and admiration for the crews that flew these missions and for the engineers and many others responsible for building this amazing piece of technology! Why other app developers can't seem to create decent flight sims based on the same principles is the real shocker - come on people, where are they? I'm sure there's a gap in the market here. Decent flight simulators, whether for civilian or combat aircraft, are noticeable by their absence in the Oculus Quest store. Surely someone can come up with something better than 'Ultrawings' for chrissake? Would like to see more interaction available during take-off, but it's good to enjoy the ride as well! Need a 4.5 star option available, as it's more than a 4 but not quite a 5 in my book....

Needs tidying up and instructions

I’ve really enjoyed this game but there are one or two things that need to be ironed out, and the lack of instructions really needs to be fixed. Also recommend Youtube videos of real shuttle landings as a guide. Ditch the glideslope and use the ball & diamond. Keep the speed under control. I’ve found that using the speedbrake to maintain 300kt during approach works well. During the final approach you will get a nominal aiming point indicator - the two triangles - keep the ball between them, control the speed - 300kt. When you approach the flare you will see the final aiming point guide rise from the bottom of the screen, two triangles again. Gently raise the nose and intercept with the ball. Now you need to concentrate on aiming and not stalling. The ball bars (two horizontal solid bars) will appear on the horizon in the HUD. Raise your ball towards the ball bars but keep the speed above 250 and watch the height on the right. Only when you are descending below around 50ft should you pull up enough to get the ball to the bars (slightly below). Don't over-do or you will climb then stall. Hold this attitude. The shuttle should gently sink and touch down onto the main wheels. The rate of descent (one of the many things not specified in the instructions) needs to be very low, only around 3ft/second. When the main wheels touch deploy the chute. Keep the nose where it is. Jettison the chute when you get the warning. This is where I get stumped. I just can’t find a way to get the nose gear down without a heavy bump, my only red scores. When the nose gear touches apply the brakes. Bugbears: -Selections are not all remembered for next time -No replay option - if you want to repeat the flight you have to set it all up again -Having to come to a full stop before being able to see the scoreboard -No information about what parameters we should be aiming for -The Hubble images section doesn’t work - just enters a random landing sim
