"‘Captain Toonhead 可能是有史以来最夸张离谱的 VR 游戏"

  • VRScout

"我在 VR 中玩过的最棒的塔防游戏之一。"

  • VRGameFaqs

Captain ToonHead!

和 Terra-S.H.A.R.K.。

Had my doubts but this smashed them!

I had my doubts about a tower defense game in VR but this game smashed those doubts. Had to come on and put a review in because this thing has already been a blast to play. The art style is great and the story is silly but after a full day of work it was a fun change of pace! Great VO BTW. My main doubt was I wasn’t sure if I would like participating in the gun play while also setting up my tower defense items. This has actually greatly enhanced the tower defense action based on that type of immersion in VR. It is insanely fun and I could feel my muscle memory of set, shoot, loot getting established quickly. There is a LOT going on in the menus which I thought might be too much but after a session or 2 I was able to get acclimated pretty quickly which is great. The depth of it is nicely absorbed over a short time and big easy to read items. Going to keep playing and will try to add more later. I just got pretty excited after playing it for a bit and figured I would write this up while the Quest charged back up! Wish I charged it today because I wanted to keep going!

Most fun I’ve had so far

I was looking for a game to play other than the normal arm swinging ones I love so much. I’ve never really cared for tower defense games much, but the glowing reviews led me to try this game, and I can’t get enough of it. Haven’t played anything else since I started. It does take some strategy, and it’s a lot of fun, made me laugh a couple times too. This is my first review that I have ever left for a game, that’s how much I loved this. If the developers read this review, please come out with a second one, or more like this.

A real review

People on here write template reviews and they are terrible. Or they just say 5 stars good game! Or trash a game for small reasons. Captain Toonhead is an amazingly intricate and well-crafted game. It oozes style with graphics that have a super art style. The particle effects shine and the cartoony graphics do it justice. You run into anthropomorphic burrito in one of the first scenes and the humor doesn't let up. The controls are remarkably well thought out and you'll be effortlessly placing turrets around the battlefield, whipping yourself around to control them and shoot the hordes. I'm a fan and I hope they continue to improve it with new maps and perhaps a deeper meta. As it is, it's worth the buy and you'll enjoy what the developer has created here if you're a fan of tower defense FPSs. I applaud the devs as this is what I'm looking for on Quest 2. Completely new experiences where you feel nostalgic and transported into another world.

I 100%-ed It

If you are a fan of tower-defense games, Captain ToonHead should be mostly familiar ground for you — you put up different kinds of defense turrets (or “Toonrets”) in designated spots, enemies enter the level in single file, they drop currency (“scrap”) when killed, you get bonus currency for starting waves early, turrets can be leveled up, etc. Typical tower-defense fare. What sets this game apart from others in the genre is the first-person-shooter elements — you can teleport to your turrets and help them out with your Brent-X Blasters. Other weapons and abilities are unlocked over the course of the game, like manually controlling turrets for short periods of time to do massive damage, or Granny’s chanclas, which never miss and can temporarily stun enemies. Something else that distinguishes Captain ToonHead from other tower-defense games I’m familiar with is that the enemies don’t try to attack you but rather to steal from you. You see, the aim of the game is to protect beings known as EnerCubes. Some enemies have to carry them all the way back to the entrance once they get hold of them, while others fly away with them immediately. This adds some strategy as to which enemies to prioritize. However, it should be noted that dropped EnerCubes do not immediately return to their original position, so you should still make sure they aren’t carried off too far, or subsequent enemies won’t need to cover a lot of distance. The EnerCubes also represent a second currency in the game which can be used to buy permanent upgrades for your turrets, blasters, and chanclas. If you do not manage to save all EnerCubes in a level, you can come back later and try again. Leftover scrap is turned into bonus EnerCubes at the end of a mission, which makes it possible to grind for cubes. I’m running out of space, so just two more quick notes: 1. PCVR version runs surprisingly well on my medium PC. 2. I found the story strangely engaging. I like the way the villain messes with your head.

Amazing but…

Alright. I love this game. It’s like the first actual tower defense game on Quest. And it’s great! But I’d only recommend this game to you if you like Tower Defense games, which you most likely do if you’re interested in this game. Down below I’ve listed some of the goods and bads of this game as well as some ideas on how to improve the game: The good: - The first true Tower Defense game on quest - Variety: Theres multiple level layouts, environments, enemies, towers, tower upgrades, weapon upgrades that are all unlockable as you progress - Skill tree: it’s a skill tree. What can I say? Will add some more variety to the game :) - Great design: Funny enemies that really feel like they’re apart of their world. The bad: - Confusing UI elements: As a UI/UX designer I gotta say they look really good from a design perspective but in VR they can be a little overwhelming. There are a lot of things I missed because I didn’t notice them in game due to focusing on other things - Pixelated text: the smaller text is unreadable due to being so pixelated. Barely any text is small enough to be unreadable but some smaller elements have super small text. Overall, I’d say this is a 4/5 experience. It’s great but has its issues.
