Now You See Me: Back to Macau is the first major hidden object game in VR and features 6 challenging, adventurous missions. The game is based on the global blockbuster Now You See Me film franchise from Lionsgate. The player assumes the role of Special Agent Price, assigned to find the whereabouts of the “Four Horsemen” band of magicians depicted in the film, who have disappeared yet again after another narrow escape. Players will dynamically integrate themselves into the world of Now You See Me. Each mission has 50-100 possible items to uncover, with new puzzles and 20-30 items that reveal themselves each time you play.

The first two chapters of this game are free, the rest cost $0.99. Unfortunately I got stuck at chapter 4 due to a bug. This is the only "real hidden object adventure" I've seen on the Go, in the sense of having quite a few HOG scenes and a story that links them. It's a reasonable HOG story that gives a good pretext to searching the scenes. It's not one of the best HOGs I played, but neither is it one of the worst, and given the dearth of such games on the Go, it would be a decent purchase if not for the problem of finishing it. The object list in the HOG scene has the full images of objects, exactly as they look in the scene (except for scale). This makes finding them reasonably easy, although for my taste it's the most boring style. As normal for HOGs, the objects are hidden by clutter and blurriness. Clues are offered when the game feels that you've taken too much time to find an object. There's a total of 5 minutes and 6 objects in all the scenes to the point I am (except the tutorial, which starts with 3 objects to find). Control is gaze based, and 'clicking' can be made either by waiting with the gaze on the object or the trigger button of the controller. I turned off gaze selection and used the controller for that. Graphics are okay. This basically looks like a desktop / mobile HOG but in 360. It's a 2D panorama with 2D objects stuck on it. Characters are 2D and sharper than the blurry background. Unfortunately, in chapter 4 first of all there were some problems selecting objects. Then it exited and I restarted it, then it looked like some scene were skipped, and then it seemed to be finished, but the next chapter didn't open. All in all, if you like HOG adventures and want one where you have to look around you, try this game. The first chapters are free and the $0.99 price for the full game is certainly not steep. Unfortunately the bugs in chapter 4 means it may not be possible to finish it.

The game was OK, but from the free sampler opening little more than a find the object game. There was no finding objects to use them. It was nicely rendered, but did not really feel 3D. But the worst part, in particular for an oldie like me, is having to point with my head. I've got a pointer in my hand which makes the stiff neck even harder to take!
